Inspirational Outdoor Patio Accessories

Outdoor Patio Accessories

The decor of the outdoor space of your home is as important as the decor on the inside. Choosing furniture, lights, and patio accessories is a fun, creative outlet and the results really make a difference.

To get started, first take a look at the style and setting of your house. Are you in an urban, suburban, or rural location? Does your home have distinctive period features or is it recent construction with the latest styles of doors and windows? Your yard and landscaping should coordinate with the appearance of the house and the surrounding area.

If yours is a traditional home, your yard or deck will look great with a white wicker chaise, bright floral cushions, and a swing or glider. A sleek Mid-Century Modern house will look both comfortable and sophisticated with a bamboo patio dining set and the soothing sounds of a fountain.

Of all the outdoor patio accessories to choose from, the one category of item that you will definitely need are cushions for the patio seating. These are a practical item that can also be used to reflect the mood you want for your patio accessories. Solids, bright florals and stripes are perennial favorites, but you can also find fun prints in tropical designs or colorful dots. Cotton duck or canvas are popular fabrics because they are durable and easy to clean.

Another of the must-have outdoor patio accessories is a table with a shade umbrella. Some people like an umbrella that matches or coordinates with the other patio accessories such as the chair cushions. Others prefer a low-key beige, green or olive color that will blend in with the natural vegetation colors in the landscaping.

Gazebos were a favorite garden decoration in the Victorian era and they are once again popular today. They now come in a range of styles and designs to suit modern homes. Building a gazebo from a kit is one option some homeowners are trying.

Another option if you want an outdoor enclosure is the screenhouse. Screenhouses have a roof similar to the one on a tent, but with open-mesh sides so you can enjoy outdoor dining without having to worry about insects.

Grills, barbeques, smokers, and fire bowls can be considered outdoor patio accessories, though they are also appliances, too. These range from inexpensive table top kettle grills to large, permanent installations, so there's a lot to pick from and your choice depends on how much you want to put into it and how what kind of entertaining you do. The main thing to keep in mind with these is safety. Be aware of fire hazards when deciding where to place anything that generates heat or flames.

When it's time to shop for patio accessories, don't feel you are limited to what's available in the local home store. There are websites that offer a full range of outdoor seating, patio cushions, picnic tables, and any other outdoor patio accessories you need to decorate your living space.

Inspirational Intensive Organic Gardening in Your Home Garden

Intensive Organic Gardening in Your Home Garden

Intensive gardening is nothing new. It is a method that has been around for centuries and is still practiced in many parts of the world. The close spacing of plants, maintaining a fertile soil, crop rotation and succession planting combined together is what sets this method of gardening in a class of it's own, along with apart from the traditional row method.

Raised beds are the ideal when incorporating these methods of gardening together. The preparation of a raised bed by digging, along with adding organic soil amendments to the existing soil before building your garden beds will greatly improve the soils structure. Double digging, adding amendments and mounding your garden beds above the existing ground will improve the soils aeration, drainage, moisture retention and tilth to allow for deep root penetration. Mounding of the soil also allows for added space to be planted over a flat surface.

A fertile, well balanced, organic rich soil is very important with this method of gardening. The bulk of the organic amendment to the soil being compost. Minerals like greensand and rock phosphates are also very beneficial. Green manure crops planted and turned into the soil will also help provide nutrients needed when planting crops at a close spacing along with improving the soils structure by adding organic matter.

In the traditional row method of gardening only 1/3 of the total gardens space is planted, compared to more than 3/4 when intensive gardening practices are used. Planting at a closer spacing usually is done by staggering the plants, allowing for more plants per square foot. Careful planning is needed to be done with this method, taking into consideration each crops habits, size at maturity, root spread, nutrition intake and water habits.

Succession planting is is very important to get the most out of your growing season. This is simply done by rapidly replanting to fill the spaces of crops that have been harvested. With a little simple planning, this can be achieved by rotating cool and warm climate crops. Once you start your garden in the spring with your cool climate crops and they are harvested, you can replant those areas with crops that will do well in the warmer weather months. After the warm clime crops have been harvested, you can replant with another crop that likes the cooler temperatures and harvest them in the fall. Timing is very important with succession planting to get the most out of your growing season.

Another great benefit to this method of gardening is companion planting. Carefully planning needs to be done when using this method, like nutrients being replenished back into the gardens soil. Different crops call for different nutrient needs. Planting the same crop over and over in the same location will do no benefit to your garden and only deplete the nutrients from the soil. Rotate nitrogen-fixing legumes like peas with crops that need nitrogen, such as corn, lettuce or tomatoes.

Intensive gardening is a method that is highly productive with a little careful planning.

Elegant My Chicken Coop Plan - Basic Chicken Coop Provisions

My Chicken Coop Plan - Basic Chicken Coop Provisions

In today's article, we are going to take a look at the key chicken coop provisions required. When you first develop your chicken coop plan, providing for proper housing and related features is absolutely necessary to keep your chickens in excellent physical shape, contented and happy. You will do best in your efforts if your chickens are as "contented as a cow," so to speak.

As I stated once before, you will do best if you consider your chickens to be pets instead of just livestock. Most people tend to take better care of their animals when they have the mindset that they are pets. The happier and healthier your chickens are, the faster and stronger they will grow and the more egg production you will get.

Perhaps the most important feature of your chicken coop plan is that of safety. You like to feel safe in your home right? Well, so do your pets. (Notice the pet mindset there!) Your chicken coop must be predator proof from all sides. Make sure that all openings are protected with the correct size wire mesh, typically 15 mm ( 5/8 inches) square so that no predator can reach into the chicken coop. Not even your cat! That's right, your cat should be considered a predator too!

Also, make sure the area surrounding the chicken coop is protected with the same 15 mm square fencing and buried at least 30 cm (1 ft) below ground level. This will prevent sly foxes and or wily coyotes from entering the chicken house.

Next, be certain that the chicken coop itself is well ventilated. This will help to prevent respiratory disease. Ever hear a chicken cough! Just kidding, they can't cough, but they can get sick!

Make sure the coop has a section that is not in the direct flow of air. Chickens can stand cold weather, but they cannot stand being in the direct cold air flow path for too long.

Provide roosting poles for the birds because that is how they sleep! (And you thought they needed beds!) Make sure there is adequate spacing so they do not crowd one another when roosting. You don't want to ruffle any feathers! They'll do that well enough on their own.

Then be sure the chicken coop is easy to clean. Place removable plastic trays under the roosting poles for easy removal of droppings. Yes, this is the nastiest job, but some ones gotta do it! Hey, maybe you can get one of the kids to do it!

Now also make sure you provide for nesting boxes. You should put one nesting box for four or five birds in a dark corner of the coop which will encourage the little ladies to lay eggs. The nesting boxes should be a little off the floor, but lower than the roosting poles inside.
You also need to make sure there is enough room for the the little buggers to roam around and play. A good rule of thumbs is 4-5 square feet per bird.

Then, last but not least, there must be a waterer and feeder. You don't want your pets to go hungry or thirsty do you?

Now for today's Stupid Chicken Joke!

Why did the chicken cross the "net?"

To get to the other site!

Oooh, that's a keeper!

New Pond Salt Benefits

Pond Salt Benefits

For home use, one of the most essential condiments is salt. It also posts a few and sometimes unknown health benefits for human beings and animals. One of the not-so-well-known health advantages of salt is the effect it has in a certain fish pond. However, these benefits are often disregarded which results to the sodium deficiency in the pond.

Water osmosis in the pond is necessary so that the fish may be able to absorb the right amount of water they need in order to survive. As they absorb water, they also emit ions which are then replaced by the sodium in the pond. That is why salt or NaCl is required to be present in the pond since it aids to the process of Osmo-regulation. The production of ample electrolytes for the fish's health is also aided by salt.

Another important reason why the pond needs salt is the normal accumulation of slimy sludge at the bottom of the pond. Since pond salt releases certain electrolytes in the pond in order to promote fish health, there is a little chance for you to be worried since the electrolytes help reduce the risk of bad bacteria buildup in the pond. Less bad bacteria means better smell for the pond water and healthier fish of course. You should be extra careful in giving the amount of food to the fish since the leftover tends to settle and decompose at the bottom of the pond making it easier for bad bacteria to flourish.

For a pond that contains freshwater and has fish swimming in it, salt is extremely needed. The lack of electrolytes from sodium in freshwater ponds requires you to use salt in order to fill up the needs of the whole ecosystem in the pond. The electrolytes are responsible for the enhancement of the fluids in the fish's body. The fluids are converted through the high levels of electrolytes to natural mucus covering for the fish's bodies. The mucous covering is important to fend off bad bacteria and other elements in the pond that may cause the fish to be sick. The fish need protection against extremely cold weather and the same mucous coating help the fish to stand cold temperature.

Because of the environment and other factors, it is normal for a pond to contain ammonia and nitrite. These compounds are the ones responsible for the skin irritation that some pond fish are having. Salt is needed in the pond for this matter. Through the mucostimulation process, the natural body slime covering of the fish is strengthened and the chloride anion coming from pond salt contend with the anion that nitrite has which causes irritation.

Salt can also function as a relaxing agent to the fish. These pond dwellers get stressed at some point. If not quickly relieved, the stress that the fish feel will cause them to fall ill. Overpopulation is one of the main reasons why the fish get stressed out, get sick then if worse comes to worst they die.

Luxury Small Chicken Coops

Small Chicken Coops

Are you planning to get some hens for your small garden? You might be thinking about getting a house for them as well, like small chicken coops? There are some points that you should be aware of before you actually go and get yourself one such coop. Here I have mentioned what to look for when buying small chicken coops.

Let the Chickens Have Ample Space

If you want the chickens to be healthy and get you more eggs, you must ensure they have enough space. The coop should never be congested. Ideally a chicken should be provided with around 8 sq feet of space. Calculate accordingly considering the number of chickens you possess and purchase one of the small chicken coops for them.

Space is an important factor as it not only keeps the chickens happy, but adds to their health and productivity as well. Too much congestion will attract germs. The atmosphere inside the coop may even turn suffocative. This is not desirable at all.

Airy and Sunny Coops

Small chicken coops must have enough ventilation to let out the gases formed inside. Harmful gases like ammonia and carbon dioxide get formed in such coops and can harm your chickens. An airy coop will get rid off these gases and allow fresh air to enter the coop effectively. This can maintain a cleaner atmosphere inside the coop and keep the chooks healthy.

Enough sunlight should be able to enter these small chicken coops. This reduces the moisture collected inside during the wet rainy seasons, keeping the coop properly dry and clean. During the winter months sunlight can warm up the coop through the day and keep it warm during the night with the windows properly shut.

Ensure the Security

Try to look for the small chicken coops that are secured enough to keep rodents, cats, foxes and other predators at bay. Make sure the doors and windows of the coop can be locked properly and the coop is strong enough to resist the attacks from such animals.

Bear these points on your mind and you will definitely get yourself the best of the small chicken coops for your chooks to be happy!

Beautiful Chicken Coop Basics

Chicken Coop Basics

There are certain things that every chicken coop should have to make sure you are raising happy and healthy chickens.  Nobody wants to have a bunch of unhappy chickens running around, part of the reason of raising chickens is because they are so much fun!  So let me get into some of the basics that every chicken coop needs to have.

First off, you need a roost. Chickens love to sleep in the highest place in the chicken coop because it makes them feel the safest.  Chickens also go to the bathroom when they are resting, so it is very important that they do not sleep in their nesting boxes, you do not want to have your fresh eggs covered in droppings.  Because of this, you also do not want your roost located directly above your nesting boxes.  Your roost should leave the chickens enough head room also so they aren't bumping their heads when jumping up or down.  Don't worry about having excess space on each side of your chickens while sleeping, because they like to huddle up with each other to stay warm and feel safe.

Secondly and probably the most important is protection from any animals that might want to eat your chickens.  If you do not have a floor you need to have fencing buried under the dirt so no animals can dig their way into the coop, and make sure the coop and chicken run are all fenced in, especially if you know there are predators in your area.

Proper spacing for each chicken is required so they can lay their eggs and just feel comfortable.  So make sure you have at least 3 square feet for each chicken you have living in your coop, most people give them at least 4, but if you are cramped for space, 3 is alright.

Your feeder should be placed around the height of your chickens' backs.  You want it off the ground so it isn't getting scratched and things aren't falling in it.  You will also need a water heater so their water does not freeze if the temperature falls below freezing levels.  Also, buy a water container that hold enough water for a few days, this way you don't have to fill it every day and it won't be a problem if you forget.

The last thing I will list here is to make sure your chicken coop is well ventilated and that you can easily clean it out.  It will get pretty dirty from droppings and you need to make sure you can clean it out easily.  So if you can't walk in, make sure you can open the roof or side panel.

Those are my basics that every chicken coop needs to have.  Having these things will keep your chickens healthy and happy.  Have fun with your amazing pets!

Check out my site for some great blueprints for any type of chicken coop you could possibly need.

Best of Tips on Home Design

Tips On Home Design

Your abode reflects your lifestyle and personality. Whatever size it is, it is your personal touch and indulgence in your home which makes it warm and unique. To many people, the very thought of home decoration leaves them into frenzy considering the big expenses. Nevertheless, if you use a well-sorted designing plan to decorate your home, surely will you achieve the right look at a much reasonable price.

Here are some home design tips that help you build your dream home.

The right color: Color is one of the most important home design tips that can add spark to the dull appearance of your home. Every room expresses something and the right hues and shades used gives it the right feel. Search what is the latest in terms of textures and colors and choose what best reflects your personality.

Home lighting: Your dream home would be incomplete if it looks dull and dark. Use the proper illuminating system for adorning the interiors of your rooms. Another useful home design tip is avoid putting dark items in the corners where lightening is bleak. Similarly, avoid putting bright pieces where light is in abundance.

Place the main furniture first: One of the most effective home designing tips to avoid cluttering at your home is to place the main and the most important furnishing first. For example, beds, couches, desks at all should be placed first and at the center of the room so that enough space is left for the placement of the rest of the furniture. Make sure that large pieces of the furniture are evenly placed in the room to strike the right balance. After the placement of the main pieces is done, then place the rest of the sundry furniture to ensure smooth flow of the traffic in the room.

Accessorize: After your fixtures have been placed, wall's painted, think of accessorizing your home, only if your budget allows you. Start with your living room as that is the most visited place by your guests. Soft illumination, unique decorating items, colorful drapes, comfy furniture will all make for an appealing living room. You can also select one from a varied range of home decoration accessories like floral decor, glass ware decor and wall decor to add a touch of class in your abode.

Awesome Planning Your New Outdoor Kitchen

Planning Your New Outdoor Kitchen

Planning your own backyard outdoor kitchen can appear to be a daunting task at first but if you approach methodically and logically then it becomes a much more manageable task. A good place to start is usually by setting up a budget unless, of course, money is no object - how many of us wish we could say that. Anyway, once you know how much money you can spend it makes things easier to plan.
Next, is surveying the space that you have and deciding what is possible from a practical standpoint. Obviously, if you don't have the space for a mega-outdoor kitchen then it doesn't matter how elaborate you want your kitchen to be. You're limited by your space and have to plan accordingly.
At this point you have to decide whether or not you want to bring in an outside designer/consultant to help with the planning. This really is a function of how much time you want to spend on the whole project yourself. Hiring someone to help would probably make the whole process less time consuming and may ultimately help you end up with a better finished product but you may get a lot of enjoyment out of taking the time yourself to do the research and planning.
Since there are so many sources of information now on the internet it cuts down greatly on the time needed to do research on both designs and equipment. Simply visiting a lot of outdoor kitchen design sites can provide you with numerous ideas as to what you might want your kitchen to look like. And the same goes for sites that retail gas grills, sideburners, smokers, refrigerators and the many other accessories that can make up a great outdoor kitchen.
So you can do a lot of research on your own before bringing in the designers and builders or you engage these experts from the start and let them help you with all of the major decisions that go into creating your perfect outdoor kitchen. Either way, the process becomes a collaborative one and it really pays to find some people to work with that you really feel comfortable with and who seem to understand your vision of what you want. The biggest and most experienced company isn't necessarily the best for you so make sure you shop around a little and see who's available in your market area to help you.
And one of the other important things that you need to decide in the beginning stages of your planning is just exactly what kind of outdoor kitchen you really need, as well as want. It might be nice to have a kitchen with all the bells and whistles and everything else that's available to use but if your level of expertise isn't the highest and your gatherings aren't really going to warrant the need for this type of facility then you should probably scale back your plans a bit. See what works for you first and then add features as you go. This is something that experienced designers can help you do and it will make your whole outdoor kitchen experience a lot better in the long run.

Changes in your taste buds and flavor palette will develop combined with a new appreciation for real fresh organic food.

Gardening is place for an individual to make use of their creativity, ranging from what fruit and vegetables to plant to the time spent researching different varieties of plants creating a new understanding of fresh food. Luxury Fitting Patio Doors

Fitting Patio Doors

We all want to save some money in these difficult times. One way do it, is to do home improvements by ourselves, instead of getting a company do to it for us. Things such as wall paining are not really that difficult, so most people can do it themselves. There are however jobs around a home that are much more difficult, and one needs to be very careful when doing them. Such jobs include fitting a patio door.

If you feel confident and have some knowledge about it, you can try and fit a patio door yourself. There are also quite a few websites which will help you in case you get stuck or face a problem. You can also ask local building supply shops, as they are often willing to lend a helping hand and give good advice.

When taking on the job yourself be advised that it might influence the value of your house, when you want to sell it. Some buyers might be concerned about a number of problems they might face in the future, should the door was fitted incorrectly.

1) Are the walls still strong and the structure untouched after you have made some serious changes by adding a new door?

2) Is the door fitted properly and is it safe to use them?

3) Can you provide a potential buyer with any kind of certification to show that the door is fitted properly and safely?

Getting a certification is quite difficult, and a lack of it might discourage prospective buyers from buying your house. Their main concern will not be however the safety and security of the fitting. They know that the door has been there for a few years without any problems, so there is a good chance that everything will be just fine. What they will worry about is if they will be able to sell the house later, without having a certificate. Therefore, before deciding on fitting a patio door by yourself think about how it might affect the price and sale of your house.

Luxury Water Fountains-why People Love Them

Water Fountains-Why People Love Them

There's a certain magic about waterfalls. You can sit beside them and watch your worries wash away. That's mainly the reason why people from all age groups, from the 6 year old to the 60 year old are captivated by the beauty of the water fall. Thanks to indoor water fountains you can enjoy the beauty of these all day long. So you no longer have to travel to far off places to be able to enjoy the serenity of a water fountain.

Available in all sizes and shapes the sky is the limit when it comes to indoor fountains. Are you looking for one to match your southern style décor? Go for a copper fountain. Want something to accentuate the contemporary look of your home? Try a wall fountain made from stainless steel. Not only these, you could choose from glass or even a bamboo fountain. The latter is mainly sold in shops selling Feng Shui products.

Looking for a focal point in your living room? Try an indoor fountain that will not only accentuate your room, but can act as a de-stressor, to your tired mind and body when you come home from work. Fountains can also be used to cut the outdoor noise, that has been bothering you! Besides being effective in cutting down noise pollution, fountains are also effective humidifiers. Why go for those noisy humidifiers in your home, when you can have a water fountain that does the same job. As earlier said, fountains are great stress busters. Water, they say, when it falls from a height releases negative ions, which when combined with the positive electrons in the atmosphere, manages to neutralize the air. The Chinese were the first to realize this and believed that water fountains, released 'chi' or positive energy.

Wall Water fountains are not only popular as a choice to decorate your home, but also used in offices, where they are personalized by adding the company logo on it. There are many offices that use these as a partition to separate spaces. For those looking for a water fountain that suites their taste and style you could go for custom fountains, but typically will see a premium price as they need to be custom made and sized.

Taking care of fountains is easy as well. All that you have to do is ensure that the pump is always submerged in water and when it is not to be used for a prolonged period, you unplug it and empty it as you don't want stagnant water sitting for a perior of time. Also using distilled water instead of tap water ensures that you don't have to clean it as often but keep in mind, you will need to clean your fountain every month or few months if larger to rid it of any algae growth.

Best of Backyard Landscaping Ideas - Easy Ideas for Breathtaking Backyard Landscape

Backyard Landscaping Ideas - Easy Ideas For Breathtaking Backyard Landscape

Is your home backyard dull and boring to the eyes? Then it needs some major remodeling. If you are really interested in redeveloping a backyard into a beautiful landscaped garden then there are some easy steps involved that can do this quickly.

Many people think that developing a garden in the backyard is an expensive affair. But it's really not. With a few basic landscaping elements you can have a dull backyard converted into a soothing green area where you can enjoy quality life with your family members.

What you can do is convert the whole backyard area into smaller areas and start visualizing it for redevelopment. If the idea of managing the complete area frightens you then let's deal with this one step at a time. Each individual area can be a grid of simple rectangles or squares running across and along the backyard. The lines forming the grid can become pathways to move into internal areas.

Once the pathways have been finalized you can visit the local nursery store and simply ask for help. Ask the expert their to give you a list of the following types of plants with their costs.

1) Lawn beds

2) Shrubs along the pathways

3) Flowerbed plants

4) Crawlers

5) Trees

Also ask about their specific requirements such as shade loving/non shade loving, the quantity of water they require etc.

The next steps involve locating the positions of these plants in the garden layout. You can use chalk powder to do this you in less than an hour. While finalizing the plant positions make sure to use some creativity and use colorful plants that will create a wonderful display of colors when they bloom. Endless options are available for you to choose from in this planning stage.

Walkways cab be built with a variety of materials such as

1) Gravel

2) Tiles

3) Stone tiles

4) Bricks with interlocking arrangements

5) Plain sand

If you are ready to spend some money even planting a pond or a fountain a good idea as this will greatly enhance the visual quality of your garden. Having statues in you garden with built-in lighting arrangement is another great idea to go for.

Try to cover most of the area with green cover to keep the surrounding cooler. The lawn can have a central paved area with a coffee table and probably an umbrella to cover it.

Lovely Choosing Between Patio Enclosures and Patio Covers

Choosing Between Patio Enclosures and Patio Covers

The one thing that nobody ever seems to have enough of is space. Because of this truth, many seek to expand into their backyard areas to create more usable spaces for their needs and enjoyment. However, there are multiple ways to approach this. Many seek to fully enclose their patio area from the outdoors to create a pleasant sun room or reading area. Others want to keep the patio open yet covered from bad weather. Both solutions have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Patio Enclosures
Patio enclosures are a great way to add an additional room or rooms to your home. This could be something as simple as a sun room or as elaborate as an additional kitchen. The main advantage to a patio enclosure is that you're completely cut off from the outdoors. This means that you can enjoy the space no matter what the conditions outside are like. For extremely cold or hot weather the enclosed space will function just as well. The main disadvantage of this, though, is the exact same as it's primary advantage - you're completely cut off from the outdoors. This is a detriment anytime that you want to lounge around feeling a cool breeze and enjoying the sunshine. Some people try to get around this by covering entire walls with panes of glass for the sun and using screens to allow wind to filter in. Whatever the final setup, a patio enclosure is a significant investment of money.

Patio Covers
A patio cover is a simpler solution that allows you to feel like you're still outside. The advantage of a patio cover is that you have greater assurance that your furniture and belongings won't be damaged by rain or direct sunlight. Patio covers come in all sorts of varieties so that you can choose which one is best for your home. Patio covers are a great solution if you still want to feel the wind blowing through your hair on a balmy summer day. You may not be able to use the patio area during the worst weather conditions, but when you do use the patio you'll still be part of the great outdoors.

Personal Space Solution
Make sure you consider your own unique needs before making a large investment into either a patio enclosure or a patio cover. Consider just how often you'll use the space before determining what the space will ultimately look like. This will help you make a better choice so that you can enjoy your patio area all the more for years to come.

Inspirational How to Build a Porch

How to Build a Porch

Building a porch is not as complicated as lot of individuals might believe. The most challenging of the tasks that you needed to do in the project is to acquire all the materials that you will need. The comfort that you will gain from the whole set-up will be worth the trouble.

MATERIALS THAT YOU NEEDED IN BUILDING A PORCH

The materials that you needed for the set-up are pressure-treated four by four wood post stock, board for the deck, cement, H20, sand, footing clamps, nails, base tubes and screws.

TOOLS

The tools that you needed for this project are saw, drill, measuring tape, chalk line, wheelbarrow, hammer, gloves, wooden stakes, pen and paper and shovel.

STEPS IN CONSTRUCING A PORCH

Examine your yard where you want to construct your porch. Begin by installing the wooden stakes at the four corners and at the area for the stairs. If you are connecting it to an existing structure, you may need to acquire construction permits from your local municipality. But if it is a structure that has a standard or sliding entrance, you need to use a ledger board to serve as a reference in your area.

Begin by looking for a main point at least three inches under the entrance-add an inch to the upper part of the ledger board. This is usually a two by ten board that needs to be installed into the sill of the set-up. Use a footing to keep it firmly connected to the ground. Dig four inches holes for the footings.

Create a mixture using one part sand and three parts cement and then add H2O so that the end product is firm. Place the cement mixture into the base tube that has been place in hole to reach three inches under the surface.

Install the anchors into the footing. Once you have installed the foundations and the ledger board, begin installing the joists and the decking boards. If the whole project is big, you can do it by portion. Carefully place the boards and install the joists at sixteen inches from the middle.

If you can build the deck in portions, install the joists into position and secure them with nails into ground. You do not have to wait to install all of the joists before placing the railings. But before installing it, you need to ask your local building inspector as building codes differ from place to place.

You can also use pre-constructed railings that you can buy from home improvement stores. Secure the railings to the deck by using nails and place the support posts. You can now just sit back and relax and enjoy your masterpiece.

New Designing Your New Home

Designing Your New Home

Buying a new home is one of the most important decisions that you make in your life. You have thought the decision through, selected the neighbourhood, contacted the builder and decided on the floor plan. Most builders now offer flexible menu options which will allow extensive customisation and they will also help you with financing. Buying a new home was never easier and there are many advantages associated with a brand, especially when it comes to customising the design so that you get a unique home made just for you, and not just a cookie-cutter house.

Once you buy a new home, you are faced with endless choices and it is up to you to pick the right one. Every room from the living room to the kitchen offers a wide range of design options and finishing touches; you have options for cabinets, countertops, flooring and everything else. The task of selecting the most suitable ones, though exciting, can also be daunting especially for first time new home buyers.

Design consultants advise that the best way to get started is by equipping yourself with as much information as possible. There are several important guidelines that new homeowners can follow to make the experience of designing their homes a lot more fun and a lot less frustrating.

Start off simple.

Starting off simple can help you organize your thoughts and sort out the various choices in front of you. If you spot pictures that reflect your personal style, tear them off from magazines and collect them in a folder. Establish a colour palette and design style. Decide on whether you want pastel shades or vibrant hues, modern and minimalistic or traditional and timeless; or anything in between. Once you decide on the basics, it will then free your mind to concentrate on details like flooring, countertops and cabinets that match your preference and the mood you want to create in each room.

Make it personal.

One of the questions that trouble new home buyers is how they can make a brand new house feel like their own living space. It is possible and easier than you think; all you need to do is incorporate small, personal touches into each room that turns the empty space into a comfortable place that you call home. If you are keeping some of your old furniture, co-ordinating other accessories in the room to match the furniture in itself can personalise the space and make it look familiar and inviting.

Choose paints that reflect your style.

Painting is one finishing touch that can significantly affect the style and feel of a home. Paints can complement and liven up all the other features in a room. A rich colour on the walls can bring about a warm an comfortable feel. The shades can also be co-ordinated with a favourite piece of furniture.

Consider the future.

It is quite important to try and make choices that will enhance the value of your home in future. If in the future you may consider selling your home, invest in fixtures and design elements that are tasteful and durable. Often, when a house is up for sale, the kitchen is one of the first rooms that prospective buyers look at. It is important to have good quality cabinets here, not only because they can have a tremendous impact on the style of the home, but they are also a difficult item to change in the future.

You need to consider a lot of things when you buy a new home. Discuss all options with your builder and make use of all the services that they have to offer. Several builders offer a great deal of flexibility especially when it comes to the design options. Ensure that you select a floor plan that you are comfortable with, customise it as required and start off simple. You are well on your way to living in the home of your dreams.

Best of Basic Pool Care

Basic Pool Care

Once you have this down, you're going to be the envy of the neighborhood.

1. Check the levels of your swimming pool chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and hardness. Keep your pH levels between 7.6 and 7.8, not 7.2.  You'll use up too much acid to keep it that low.  Get your alkalinity in check, 80-100, then adjust your pH.

Try to not go over 8.0.   This will help with the water chemical balance and spa maintenance.

2. Test and maintain your chlorine between 1.0-3.0ppm. Most pool techs will tell you to keep your chlorine levels between 1.0-3.0ppm. This will help keep the pool algae away.

I choose to keep the chlorine at this level, 3.0ppm, because I want to have a buffer zone, especially when I'm expecting a large bather load.

Nothing eats up chlorine faster on a bright sunny day than having a large bather load with kids......who stay in the pool......for very long periods of time......and don't come out of the pool......for anything......and I mean ANYTHING.

3. Everyone needs to check their floaters with their chlorine tablets or swimming pool chemical feeders and keep it full at all times. NEVER put pool chlorine tablets in your skimmer.

When your pump turns off the tabs keep dissolving. When the pump turns back on your system will get a highly concentrated dose of acid and chlorinated water that will, over time, wreak havoc on your

If anyone tells you it's alright to put chlorine tablets in the swimming pool skimmer, just nod and smile, then walk away. They either don't know or understand proper swimming pool water maintenance, or they're trying to sell you something, like a new filtration system.

4. Use "No Mor Problems" from United Chemical Corp. I've seen its effectiveness and know how well it works. I like United Chemical's ideas on pool water maintenance and they have some really good swimming pool maintenance tips.

5. Empty the skimmer baskets and, using a wide-mouth and deep pocket leaf rake, remove leaves, insects and other debris from both the pool surface and the bottom. You'll need the right kinds of cleaning parts to pull this off. You may also want to invest in a brush that can easily remove the hard-to-reach debris that collects and sticks to the tile at the water line.

6. Brush the walls and steps weekly and vacuum the bottom when necessary. You may want to vacuum every other week but especially after a windy dust storm. Be sure to backwash your filter after you vacuum or after excessive sweeping of dirt and debris found on the bottom of the pool.

Vacuum as you would vacuum your carpet, beginning at the shallow end and work your way down.

Remember to go slowly as the dirt will seem to "fly up" and you'll get frustrated because more dirt is floating in the water than going into the filter.

7. Backwash once per month or when the pressure is too high, usually about 10-12psi.

8. Only use the water you need to keep your pool at its proper level, about 3" up from the bottom of the skimmer. You may want to invest in a automatic water-filler or just keep an eye on the hose while you're topping off the pool.

9. If you have an automatic pool cleaner, be sure it's in proper working condition. Check with your pool professional if there are signs of wear on your cleaner or it's simply not cleaning properly.

Now the big thing is the pH and alkalinity.  Without going into too much detail, I'll try to explain.

Most pool guys and pool shops will tell you to keep your pH around 7.2 and your alkalinity about 100-120ppm.  This is simply not right.  And here's why...

They get their infomation from an index call the "Langelier Index" which was originally used for public water systems and was introduced to pools in the mid 1950's because there simply was no other system..

It's a good system, but just the wrong application.

The Hamilton Index was specifically designed for pools.  By using the Hamilton Index you will see an decrease in your chemical usage along with an increase in your wallett, and who couldn't use that?

I don't completely agree with the Hamilton Index, but it is closer to how a pool should be balanced than the other index.

Having a great swimming pool your entire family can enjoy should be easy, once you know and understand basic pool care.  Remember not to over-think or over-complicate swimming pool care by adding this and that and the other thing.  Keep it simple, understand your chemicals, stick to the basics, and you're on your way to being the envy of the neighborhood.

Happy Swimming

Unique Fire Pits in Travel

Fire Pits In Travel

You know that in the history of mankind, fire is considered as one of the most elemental, fascinating and potent phenomena. Because cooking, warmth, creating ceramics, glass; repelling wild animals, clearing fields for agriculture need fire. On the other hand, it can destroy forests, homes and people.

In today's green-conscious world, safe use of fire in outdoor leisure and travel settings has merited a lot of attention. Misuse of camping fires have caused tragic losses in wildlife, forests, homes and human lives. In some areas, use of open fires is banned completely in recreational areas for fear of wildfires. The use of fire pits can help to make safer use of fire possible. There are two basic types of fire pits - ones that are permanent and sunken into the ground and those that are portable.

The permanent types are great for back yards and patios as property-enhancing features. A pit is dug and lined with heat-retaining stones or bricks which protect the ground below the pit and keep the fire from spreading above ground. The in-place fire pit makes a wonderful focal point for back-yard marshmallow roasts, story-telling, and parties and barbecues. A permanent fire pit can also be piped for natural gas, which gives flexibility in areas where wood burning is prohibited during part of the year.

Portable fire pits can be carried along on family outings and smaller ones can be used virtually anywhere. They burn either wood or charcoal. Most have a metal container of varying shape - round, rectangular or square are most usual - with a screen covering the top to prevent sparks from spreading or flames from escaping. The container is supported by sturdy legs and/or support structures.

Different metals are used. Choices range over shining copper, stainless steel, cast iron and cast aluminum. Some models have wheels on a couple of the legs making it possible to easily relocate. Others are set into a table top and are more furniture-like.

Another type of portable fire pit is the metal or ceramic chiminea. These have a rounded bottom topped by a circular stack of varying height. Wood is put into the bottom through a front opening. Chimineas are a good heat source and small items of food can be cooked over the flames. Many styles are available to match any decor. Family gatherings and outings can be greatly enhanced by the addition of a fire pit.

Awesome Outdoor Shower

Outdoor Shower

Outdoor Showers

Outdoor showers come in many varieties, styles, and price ranges. They are fun to use and make a great addition to many landscapes and vacations. You may wish to purchase a low end pool shower, a high end outdoor shower, or even a solar shower.

Low End

A low end shower is less than a hundred dollars. The water source is your garden hose. You hook it up and it pressurizes the shower. These types of showers are almost always unheated. That is ok because they are mostly used in the hottest parts of the summer.

Some people like the feature of a foot wash. Some of the lower end showers have a separate lower valve to wash off the feet and some do not. This is a nice feature because you will often want to wash your feet before you get in the pool. The shower head can't get enough pressure to wash the feet because it is too far away.

High End

The high end showers can cost thousands of dollars. They are often made of stainless steel or chrome. These showers are often heated, as well. They are usually installed right into the pool deck. They are much more difficult to install because you need to run regular plumbing and electrical and/or gas to the shower unit. Most people will need to hire a contractor to install this type of shower.

Solar Showers

The solar showers are painted black to absorb the sun rays. They are passively solar. That means that the sunlight is absorbed by penetrating the water tank. Solar showers are not typically photovoltaic. A very inexpensive solar shower is a black five gallon bag of water.

Final Tip

Do you vacation a lot? It's quite convenient and nice to bring your outdoor shower with you. At many remote locations you can hook up your outdoor shower and get the cleanliness you crave. There are even portable outdoor showers that heat up quickly by way of propane.

Unique Outdoor Kitchen Ideas

Outdoor Kitchen Ideas
Outdoor kitchens are meant to be fun. After all, you are outdoors enjoying the great weather and some great food too. However, in order for your outdoor kitchen to be successful you need to be smart about the plans that you make while designing it. With this being said, here are some things that you should keep in mind.

Strategic Placement

Your outdoor kitchen should be strategically placed in relation to the other elements that you already have in your backyard. This is important because you will want to have a natural traffic flow.

Easy Access

Another word about strategic placement Make sure that you have easy access between both the indoor and the outdoor kitchen. Of course, you also dont want to place the cook in an isolated area. If you are worried about smoke, look into a grill that has an exhaust fan on it. This will allow you to have lots of grill-side seating.

Incorporating A Refrigerator

The trend has been to recreate the feel of a traditional indoor kitchen outdoors. If this is your intention, then you will want to make sure that you have an outdoor fridge. You will also want to make sure that you have one if you plan on having a mini bar. It is a good idea to have your sink and food prep area between your fridge and grill.

Incorporating A Bar

If you are going to have an outdoor bar, you should give it a touch of authenticity by incorporating beer dispensers, wine chillers, martini bars and an icemaker. You will also want to build an island for your guests to sit at and dont forget the little added touches like a bottle opener or a towel holder.

Your Grill

Almost every outdoor kitchen includes a grill. There are the traditional charcoal and gas grills available but there are also hybrid grills as well. While they are more expensive, they are more versatile too. Electric grills are also available for your consideration. You may balk at this idea until you consider just how many more things this will allow you to be able to cook outdoors.

The Price Tag

Nothing in life is free and this is also true for your outdoor kitchen. There are some budget friendly options available such as portable refrigerators, pre-fabricated kitchen islands and using concrete or brick instead of stainless steel or tile. You will need to take some time to do some research online. Once you do, you will be able to see that you can actually design an outdoor kitchen that will fit any budget.

A Final Word On Designing An Outdoor Kitchen

People want versatility so that they can cook everything from American to Indian and even Asian cuisine. This is easy to do today since both gas and electric grills mimic indoor cooking so that you are no longer stuck just cooking steaks. Now you can have an outdoor lobster bake or you could even install a wood oven to make pizza in.

Where you live is probably one of the most important decisions you'll ever make during your lifetime. Some people move from place to place, while others wind up living in the same area for 30 years. For many, the ultimate goal is to design a house that encompasses every feature they ever imagined.

To design your own home, the first thing you must do is decide the square footage. That may be limited by your budget as well as the size of the property where the home will be built. Once you have decided on how big your home will be, you need to organise your thoughts and create an outline of your project.

You don't have to be a professional designer or even know how to drawer particularly well. Your job is to visualize the layout of the home first and worry about the details later. When you design your own home, it may take a week or even longer to come up with the final concept. Be prepared to draw and redraw your floor plan as you hone in on exactly how you want your house to look.

Using graph paper is a good way to draw your design to scale. For example, each box can represent a foot. If you prefer, you can purchase software that will make it easy to experiment with different layouts. When you design a house you must think about everything as a whole. While you may not know much about plumbing or electricity, you should know that you have to plan for each system.

For instance, try to keep plumbing along one or maybe two walls. An upstairs and a downstairs bathroom should be located one above the other. You should decide how many electrical outlets you want and where you want to place them. All of the technical details will have to be drawn by an architect. He will be able to create blueprints based on your design that meet all building codes.

Everything from the size of the rooms to how many windows you want can be sketched out. You can decide the best way to position your house on the property. Remember the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and the north side is usually the shadiest side of the house.

Once your design is complete, hire a qualified architect, let him draw out blue prints and if you're satisfied with his work, then, it is time to hire a building contractor to build your dream home.

Best of Design Your Own Home

Design Your Own Home
You have watched all of the home design shows at home and you think to yourself that it seems pretty easy to do. Well, if you have the time and the money, you can certainly design your own home with a little bit of planning. Especially when you move into a new home, many people tend to hire architects and home designers who lay out the entire home design. The only problem with this is that it might be a great looking home but its not a home with your own personal input. When you design you own home, you will take a lot of pride in what you are doing and you will design your home exactly how you want it to, not what someone else envisions for it.

The first step in getting started on designing your own home is to have some sort of inspiration. Many people want their homes design to flow. One room will take you right into another room. This flow will generally create a larger home in visual appearance and give your guests a sense of space that can be hard to achieve with older style home formats.

You may have your own ideas about what you have always wanted in a home and then you can always look at other homes and magazines to see if those designs are a good starting point for your home. By organising all of this information, over time, it will begin to look more like a cohesive plan as to what you want in your home and how you can achieve this goal of designing your own home.

You will then have to create several different sketches of your home. At the beginning you might just be playing around with ideas. The more of these sketches that you work on, the more you will be able to piece together your home. Once you have the sketches it is time to actually develop the design. Your drawing must go from 2 D to 3D with all of the appropriate dimensions. You will most likely have to work with a professional in order to create this developed design.

Once your design has been developed, you can then begin to have the plans drafted by an architect who will be able to construct your home as you designed it. You can take great pride in this home because it is your vision and dream. However, you cannot assume that this home will go up overnight. Planning to design your own home can take even longer than it takes to build your own home from a pre-drawn design. You should have in mind that this is a lengthy and ongoing project but it is a project that will fill you with joy and pride once it is completed.

Inspirational Tapping Bpo Talent Pool

Tapping BPO Talent Pool

The BPO sector is one of those rare industries that do not limit itself to certain pockets for manpower recruitment. Call center experts have gone out of their way to get more talented telemarketers on their team by looking into newer areas. Very often we read about call centers conducting training sessions and seminars and even job fairs in rural and suburban areas. Their purpose is very simple: they want to leave nothing untapped in finding the right resources for their workforce. Their search has taken them into areas that have not really seen the dawn of modern technology. But their efforts have consistently paid off. They were rewarded with some exceptional telemarketing services agents who did the work for them. Let's find how why it is important for BPO service to look beneath the lamp:

1.  Latent Skills: The raw skills that these possible recruits have make it a very healthy and productive initiative for the call centers. The telemarketing talents in the city and BPO hubs are nearing exhaustion now. Whatever little is left to be discovered is under the scanner and the competition to pick them up is very high. Why wait and watch when you can do something grossly different? You can use your resources of recruitment to scourge for talent in the rural and provincial areas. Such excursions can lead you to manpower that is willing to be molded in any way you think fit. For example, you can train a promising talent exactly the way you want to. Coming with no preconceived notions can often turn into a heady advantage.

2.  Lack of Competition: If you want to look elsewhere, you are automatically excusing yourself from the competition to get the best talent onboard. Here, you are investing in some time, effort and money in building up a talent pool that will help your business in the distant future as well. It's like you are buying a pond to catch the fish! Once you have sufficient amount of control over an area that is rich in the kind of manpower that the call centers can employ, you are picking up what you need and you also have the right to choose what you want. You can train the agents in specific telemarketing projects and have them work for you. Because the competition and the market at large is unknown to them, you can hire cheap labor as well.

3.  Loyalty: You can get rid of a rising attrition rate that the business process sector is often plagued with. The agents that you train will be faithful to your BPO unit because of two reasons. One is the obvious sense of belonging that they will feel for your call center. The other is that lack of other telemarketing units to hire them will keep them where they are. You can improve their salary and other perks according to the requirements and their performance. With the right approach, your team will be able to do some quality work without adding to your inflated costs.

New Solar Garden Lights for Your Home

Solar Garden Lights For Your Home
It's almost spring time and many people are starting to think about their garden and outdoor living again. One of the coolest things to come out of the renewable energy revolution going on right now is solar garden lights. Let's explore these lights and their cool features.

Versatility

Most people think that lights powered by the sun have to be short, black lights with little solar panels on the top. But the latest lights come in all shapes and sizes. Suppliers are now offering everything from floating pond lights to external panel shed lights that are often used in bus shelter and commercial applications. Lamp post lights, pond lights, umbrella lights, and table lights can all be powered by the sun these days. And the aesthetics are improving as well. From copper and aluminum to earth tones and neon, these lights come in a wide variety of colors to fit any theme.

Brightness

Do you want to add some mood lighting to your backyard without impacting your power bill? Or do you want to light up the barbecue area so you can actually see what you're cooking? Solar garden lights can do both of these things with ease. With a huge variety of bulb brightness and color options, virtually any need can be met with these lights. Usually the brighter the light, the larger the panel needed to power it. The advancement of light emitting diode (LED) bulbs has allowed for wider application of solar lighting. These bulbs use far less energy because they are actually off half the time, they just switch off and on so quickly that you can't see the 'off' phase. So you can power a brighter bulb off a smaller panel since it requires less energy.

Installation

Without a doubt, one of the coolest things about lighting your outdoor spaces with photovoltaic lights is the ease of installation. In fact, its often the main reason why people choose them. Because electric cords are not necessary to power the units, they can be installed very quickly and easily. Many lights are often just stuck directly into the soil or grass and they're done. Others may require some minor drilling and bolting. So set up your lights, let them charge for awhile, and start enjoying your lighted garden!

Choosing the Location

Small garden lights with integrated solar panels need to be exposed to the sunshine of course to absorb the sun's energy. But it doesn't need to be exposed to the sun all day to still shine at night. Many lights need only a couple hours of sunshine to generate a few hours of light at night. Most people don't need lights that burn all night anyway. If you need light in areas that are usually shaded, there are lighting systems with separate panels. These systems can be installed with the bulb housing in the shade and the panel installed nearby but in the sunshine.

Solar Sensors

Nearly all solar lights have electric eyes that tell the light to turn off and on based on daylight. So as soon as the sun goes down the lights turn on and as soon as the sun comes up they turn off. Many have manual controls as well so you can control them yourself.

Lovely Farming Your Own Backyard

Farming Your Own Backyard

The world’s turn in focus from consumption to production has caused a renewed focus in sustainable living. Cities around the world are finding new ways to use renewable energy and decrease dependency on fossil fuels. And they are trying to stimulate the people to act for themselves and join the movement toward a “Green” planet.

Austin is doing its part. With its new slogan “Grow Local”, SFC – Sustainable Food Center – in Austin is educating and encouraging Texans to turn to their own backyards for food and resources. Through gardening and composting, each household can become more independently sustainable and less dependent upon outside help.

According to the SFC, Texas ranks third (to the bottom) in food insecurity. That means that over 15% of households in Texas can’t produce one thing for themselves from the ground; but instead, they go the grocer or a restaurant for everything. They cannot feed themselves.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Though Texas soil provides challenges for growing some products, other products grow quite well, enabling a well-rounded, diverse garden. SFC gives these tips for starting and maintaining a garden.

Greatest Garden Ever

1. Preparing the Time– Spring in Texas is not the only time to plant. Fall, too, works just as well by providing an appropriate, mild climate. So February-March and September-October are the two prime planting times; however, you can plant almost year round in Texas. Best advice for starting out: start small. You want to have something that you can manage without feeling overwhelmed. You can always expand your garden when you are ready.

2. Preparing the Ground – Because the dirt is so hard, make sure that you water the ground before beginning to prepare the garden bed. It is much easier to work with moist dirt than it is to dig in the clay ground. Make sure when loosening the soil to remove weeds and grass roots, as well as build pathways and trenches for water. To ensure that weeds don’t grown on the pathways, lay down newspaper or cardboard first and then mulch or leaves.

3. Planting – For best results, follow the instructions on the seed packets. They will tell you about spacing, sunlight and amount of water needed. Make sure and keep the soil moist during germination so that the maximum number of seeds will sprout. Then, when plants emerge, thin your garden out by pulling up the ones that are too close together.

Sharing the Wealth

If you don’t have the space for a garden, then SFC has a list of all the community gardens around town that you can join. And if you are growing in your own backyard, then you can join a co-op to share what you have and get what you don’t.

Becoming sustainable is not as hard as you might think. With organizations like SFC providing information to locals, anyone can “Go Green” right from home...even right from their very backyard.

Unique Designing a Small Garden Sloping Towards the House

Designing a Small Garden Sloping Towards the House

Garden that sloping towards the house has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of having such garden perhaps is that you can view everything in it. However, it has some disadvantages as well, the two more prominent are: in case the slope is steep enough, the house appears to be dark, and the second disadvantage can be of drainage as the water accumulates at the bottom near the house and may cause dampness problem. But the slope in these designs is not that steep, so you need not to take too much account of these disadvantages. The shaped paving should have sloped away from the house and there must be a form of drainage at the foot of the steps. The circular area of the paving can be done in different types and shapes. The area other than circle could be shady and in winter it may become slippery as well with natural stone or smooth paving. The climbing plants on either of the corners will help to take off the bareness of the area.

The height of the retaining walls (that is of brick or stone) should be maintained all around. The ground height near the steps will manage the height of the retaining walls. Some backfilling with soil may be needed. Make sure that the plants on the top of the walls are not too high to obstruct the view.

A low retaining wall is used to level the area for the seat and pergola. Similarly, on an opposite corner, the small shed or summerhouse is treated in the very same way. The slope between the two borders should be from rear fence to down to the lawn and the lawn itself will slope down towards the steps. The structure used as a pergola needs to be of some heavy material so that it will support some climbing plants, such as a honeysuckle and clematis. If you prefer to enjoy the sun, you can opt out the pergola.

As there is no room for shrubby plants, climbing plants are used to screen all the fences. To avoid any damage to the plants, the pergola timber used should be pressure treated and stained. There are different shapes of pergola that you can use, such as octagonal or hexagonal. But fore such designs, you need to adjust the seat under a pergola further back into the shade to have a comfortable sitting place. These designs are not suitable for people who enjoy the sun a lot.

If you are designing a hobby garden for a family, then there are certain modifications you can make in your garden accordingly. You can use a high quality fine lawn grasses. You can replace pergola and seat with greenhouse. And instead of shrubs, you can grow high amount of herbaceous and annual flowers in your garden. In case of alkaline soil, tubs and pots of acidic compost can be used to grow ericaceous plants, such as rhododendrons, camellias, pieris and azaleas and many more.

Elegant a Backyard Fish Pond

A Backyard Fish Pond

Water gardens and backyard ponds are for butterflies,
frogs, birds, fish, you, and the whole family. These
ponds may be small, may even be no larger than 3 to 4
feet in diameter. These may be built in patio
containers and barrels. Drawing wildlife in your
backyard may be done by adding water gardens and
ponds. These will not only provide enjoyment and
interest but also a natural and relaxing environment
as well.

A fish pond in your backyard may become the focal
point of your backyard conversation. So spice it up
with this tips and techniques.

Where You Should Put Up a New Backyard Fish Pond

Place your fish pond in a place where you can best
view it from, whether from a deck or the patio. Make
it coincide with the natural surroundings. Do not
place the pond where the sun can overheat it. Nestle
it in a shaded place but not under the trees.

Landscaping

It is best to slightly elevate the soil surrounding
the pond so that excess water will not enter into it.
Plan the drainage system of the pond, making sure that
it draws the water away from your house.

Landscaping the surroundings around your pond will
provide a natural dwelling place for birds and frogs
that need water and land. Make sure that electricity
is available if you plan to use lights, filters, or a
water re-circulating device.

Do not place the pond under the trees to avoid fallen
leaves into the pond. This technique will also provide
less maintenance to the pond. Expose the pond to
sufficient sunlight only since some aquatic plats grow
well in full sun and others do not.

Using Pond Liners

Pond liners are used to keep water from leaking into
the soil. It is almost always necessary for ponds even
if it they are situated in clay soils. Pond liners
come in different shapes and sizes. They even include
built in waterfalls or any design based on your
preferences. They are durable and convenient.

Consider a polyvinyl chloride liner (PVC liner) in
building larger ponds. In determining the size of the
PVC, you have to know the maximum length, width, and
depth of the pond. After which, multiply the maximum
depth by 3. Add the answer to the width and the
length. Now you have enough PVC to securely hold down
the pond edges.

Pond liners come in different thickness as well. The
thicker the pond liner, the more resistant it is to
punctures. Cement may be considered an optional pool
liner. However, it requires more expertise to install
and it may cost more than the regular plastic pond
liner.

However, considering that many ponds are quite small,
other plastics may be used. It may be cheaper but many
may break down easily once prolonged exposure to
ultraviolet light happens. Some plastics also may
prove to be toxic to fish.

Pond Installation

Time your pond building when the ground is not overly
wet or frozen. Dig the hole according to the right
depth and place (and secure) the pond liner. Then
landscape the pond surroundings. Remove any rocks from
the surrounding area. Add water, plants, and a pump.
Let the pond sit for a few days before adding plants
and fish. Let the plants settle for at least one week
before placing the fish.

Then sit back and enjoy your new awesome backyard fish pond!
